Tolerance compensation

FLEXITOL®

Manual and automatic. FLEXITOL® enables infinitely variable tolerance compensation.

Tolerance compensation systems – FLEXITOL® Hybrid

Simple tolerance compensation

Efficient production

The use of FLEXITOL® tolerance compensation systems permits greater manufacturing tolerances, thereby allowing for more cost-effective production methods.

Plus factors

Advantages of FLEXITOL®

  • Optimal compensation

Appropriate tolerances for reliable series production. Compensation of even relatively high manufacturing tolerances.

  • The most cost-effective technical solution

    Reliable function and first-class quality.

  • Efficient processes

Quick and easy installation. Short and economical cycle times throughout the production process.

Quick and easy installation

Stepless tolerance compensation

Manual tolerance compensation

This tolerance compensation system is screwed into the receiving component to a defined position. During the joining process, the component tolerances are compensated (zero tolerance at delivery of component). Further alignment is possible during assembly. When the joint is released, the set position is retained.

Automatic tolerance compensation

Two components are aligned or positioned in relation to one another. When they are screwed together, the gap between the two components is automatically compensated.
The tolerance compensation system fixes the position in which they were originally aligned. When the joint is released, the system returns to its base position.

FLEXITOL® product types

  • FLEXITOL® Metal

This two-piece system is made entirely of metal and can withstand high loads.

The minimal space requirement in the joint makes this solution easy to install in an existing space – even retrospectively.

    Adjustment element

    • Integrated friction
    • High-strength metal adjustment element

    Fastener

    • Compact system size
    • Blind rivet nut in various designs
    • Easy assembly using proven blind rivet technology
  • FLEXITOL® Hybrid

Multi-part system intended primarily for use in large-scale series production.

Due to the modular design, it is easy to modify the base heights and tolerance compensation dimensions.

To ensure maximum transmission forces, the transmitting components in this hybrid (plastic/metal) solution are made of metal. They are also enclosed by a nut cage made of plastic.
The integrated blind rivet nut is already present as a fastening thread.

  • FLEXITOL® Plastic

The FLEXITOL® Plastic consists of an adjustment element and a fastening element made of plastic, and is supplied pre-assembled. It is easy to screw this assembly into the mounting hole of the plastic receiving component.

The bayonet variant offers an additional connection option for the base element. It allows the FLEXITOL® Plastic to be inserted into a keyhole-shaped opening and latched by rotating it by a quarter turn. The subsequent installation procedure is identical to the one for the self-tapping variant.

  • FLEXITOL® K' in K'

For "banjo screws", the function of the K' in K' thread is extremely important. The
K' in K' thread cuts its own pilot thread into the existing plastic bore hole.

Due to a resistance effect, the banjo screw can then only be screwed further in or out with a higher torque.

  • FLEXITOL® Eco

The FLEXITOL® Eco consists of a plastic cage with an in-moulded metal nut. The tolerance compensation takes place during installation when the plastic cage is compressed and automatically adapts to the degree of tolerance compensation required. No further adjustment process is necessary.
Due to the clip geometry in the bottom part of the plastic in-moulding, the fastener can also be pre-assembled and does not disassemble during transport.

The fastener can be used to fasten dash panels inside vehicle bodies, for example.

  • FLEXITOL® for rear light attachment

Thanks to the specially developed manual tolerance compensation system, you can align the assembled rear light with an ideal gap size.

  • FLEXITOL® for roof rail attachment

Special solution for attaching the roof rail using a manual and an automatic tolerance compensation system

The thin metal of the roof panel makes it difficult to transmit any great force when attaching the roof rail. However, this problem is solved by a tolerance compensation specially developed by Böllhoff.
It transmits the forces to the underlying metal layers. Tolerances within the roof edge have no influence on the gap between the roof rail and the roof panel.
There are various systems available, which can be pre-installed either on the roof rail or in the car body.
