Photovoltaic systems at Böllhoff

The photovoltaic system on the roof of the new Böllhoff Phase V building complex in Wuxi, China

To use every technically suitable roof in Germany to produce solar power and to also commission further PV systems internationally: This is the goal we have set ourselves and already communicated it in the Böllhoff Sustainability Report 2021. Time for a review of our PV expansion campaign following its completion at the end of 2025.

A closer look at our PV expansion campaign:

Renewable energies – and photovoltaics in particular – are an important building block for a sustainable energy supply. In order to further optimise our own energy mix, we have set ourselves the goal of expanding existing PV systems and commissioning new ones in recent years – both in Germany and around the globe. Priority was given to plants on new buildings or on production and logistics units with high capacity utilization forecasts. The following illustration provides an overview of what we achieved with our photovoltaic expansion campaign until the end of 2025.

With our expansion campaign, we have almost tripled our photovoltaic capacity installed worldwide.

A total of around 2,100 kWp of PV capacity was added through various expansion projects – at our German sites in Bielefeld, Oelsnitz and Sonnewalde, as well as internationally in Wuxi (China) and Oradea (Romania).

Our plants in China and Romania

We expanded our capacities at our sites in Wuxi (China) and Oradea (Romania) in recent years – and put new building complexes into operation in each case. Naturally, the focus of these expansions also was on renewable energies.

The new buildings in both Wuxi and Oradea are heated by heat pumps. The electricity required for this is partly generated by our own photovoltaic systems – in the case of our production site in Wuxi, this is currently the largest PV system in the entire Böllhoff Group.

In its current expansion stage (from November 2025), the PV system in Wuxi has an output of 1,944 kWp, with PV modules on nearly all the rooftops on site. Parts of the system can be seen in the photos in this article. This PV system alone generates approx. 2.1 GWh of clean energy per year.
