Böllhoff Group acquires worldwide HELICOIL® trademark

HELICOIL® Smart – The thread insert with tang which does not have to be broken off

HELICOIL® – now a Böllhoff product worldwide

As of 1 October 2021, the Böllhoff Group has acquired the worldwide HELICOIL® trademark.

The trademark was previously held by Stanley Engineered Fastening

Stanley Engineered Fastening is a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker based in New Britain, Connecticut. This transaction allows each company to more closely align resources with independent strategic initiatives.

As part of this transaction, Böllhoff Group will licence back this trademark to Stanley Engineered Fastening in the North American region for the automotive repair and non-automotive applications. In North America, OEM automotive applications for HELICOIL® and wire thread inserts will be served by Böllhoff Group, while automotive repair and aftermarket applications and other industries will be served by Stanley Engineered Fastening. The remainder of the globe will be served by Böllhoff Group.

Böllhoff Group and Stanley Engineered Fastening are both leading manufacturers of specialty fasteners serving the automotive, industrial and aerospace markets. The companies have a 70-year history of partnership in the HELICOIL® product line and associated trademarks. During this long history together, they have established successful licence agreements to develop the markets and products which serve customers around the world.

About the HELICOIL® thread insert

The HELICOIL® thread reinforcement principle was developed and patented in the USA as early as 1938. In 1954, Josef Böllhoff acquired a licence for the production and sale of HELICOIL® thread inserts for the Böllhoff Group. Having been operating exclusively as a wholesaler until then, Böllhoff now entered the production of fasteners for the very first time. In the following 67 years, the HELICOIL® thread insert contributed to Böllhoff's success like no other product.

The functionality of the HELICOIL® thread insert has remained unchanged over the past decades. It creates high-strength fastenings in materials with low shear strength such as aluminium, magnesium or fibre-reinforced plastics. HELICOIL® is therefore predestined for lightweight construction and is used in almost all industries today, e.g. in the automotive and aerospace sectors or in mechanical engineering. Since 1954, Böllhoff has continuously optimised the design and variety of the thread insert and the corresponding assembly systems and tailored them to demanding applications.
