Sustainable surface protection thanks to VZD

VZD – the Chromium-VI-free alternative for electroplating

Chromium-VI is already banned from many industries as a substance hazardous to the environment and seriously hazardous to health. On 21.09.2017 a general prohibition of surface finishes containing Chromium-VI came into force throughout Europe, under the REACH regulations.

The prohibition affects chromating processes that were previously the standard for electroplated fasteners.

  • Yellow chromating (such as: A3C to DIN EN ISO 4042)
  • Olive chromate
  • Black chromate
  • DACROMET®


Quality, price and availability are the most important criteria when it comes to selecting an alternative surface. Electroplated zinc coatings with Chromium-III thick-film passivation (VZD) satisfy these requirements.

  • High corrosion resistance: 144 h in SSNT (compared to A3C: 120 h in SSNT)
  • Adjusted coefficient of friction: µges = 0,12-0,18
