ONE SHOT - self-punching fastening elements
ONE SHOT technology: Quick and process-safe insertion of punching sleeve into plastic
Until now, inserting metal thread elements was carried out in quite a complicated way using the two-shot method (piercing), time-consuming handling (finding the hole) and inserting the spacer bushing.
Böllhoff Verbindungstechnik GmbH based in Bielefeld and FRIMO Sontra GmbH based in Sontra have developed THE alternative: With the ONE SHOT procedure, punching and setting can be done in one step. Machine technology for handling and pressing-in is provided by FRIMO while Böllhoff develops and produces the punching sleeves.
ONE SHOT is suitable for thin-walled structural components, preferably those with a wall thickness of 2.0 to 4.0 mm (a maximum of 8.0 mm is possible) made of fibre reinforced plastics (SMC, GMT, GFK, PP long fibre, etc.). Böllhoff product manager Michael Stumpf: "After comprehensive basic testing, we are currently validating the procedure in first industrial projects. Due to the high requirements, the thread elements in particular are a great challenge."
The procedure is suitable for automobiles, e. g. for front modules, bumpers, multifunctional trays, underride protection or underside panelling.
ONE SHOT vs. pre-piercing: Compared to other, complicated two-step procedures for inserting punching sleeves, FRIMO's and Böllhoff's new, quick procedure proves its advantages at a glance.
